Chet was born in McPherson, Kansas on July 28, 1939, a son of Lois Lucretia (Fortner) Perkins and the late Vernon Francis Perkins.
Chet attended Grasshopper Country School, rural Galva, Kansas and McPherson Junior High School, McPherson, Kansas.
He was a member of Free Methodist Church McPherson, Kansas.
Through the years Chet worked as a roofer for Donahue and Sons, construction work putting up guardrails for ArmCo, and worked for McPherson Area Solid Waste.
Chet enjoyed children of all kinds, collecting and selling antiques, spending time with his children and family. He made friends easily and loved the out-of-doors, especially gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with others.
Chet was united in marriage to Drusila McQuillan at Nickerson, Kansas.
Chet is survived by his children Chester L Perkins, Jr., of Mancelona, Michigan, and Teresa Perkins, of Michigan; his Mother Lois Perkins, of McPherson, Kansas; Sisters Earline Magathan, of Marion, Kansas, Nadine Bonham, of McPherson, Kansas, Barbara Huff, of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Mary Kluss, of Nickerson, Kansas, and Erma Perkins, of McPherson, Kansas; his 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandsons with 1 more great-grandchild on the way!; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Chet was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Perkins: his son, Sean Perkins, and brothers Vernon, Jr., Gerald and Stanley Perkins.
Graveside service for Chet will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas, with Pastor Tom Griffith officiating.
Memorials are suggested to Women and Children Combating Cancer in memory of Chet and they can be sent in care of the Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas.
