Mr. Clay was born June 26, 1931 near Shelbyville the son of Emanuel Frances and Emma Elizabeth Ditzler Clay.
He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School.
Mr. Clay served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Caterpillar Tractor Company enrolled him in their electrician school in 1953 and immediately hired him upon completion of his training. He worked there for 41 years and retired in 1994.
Mr. Clay was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4829, Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #71 and Jackson Masonic Lodge allof Shelbyville.
Surviving are his wife Eva; daughter, Joan E. “Jonie” Cornwell and husband H. Ronald of Sullivan, IL; grandchildren: Chad Elliott and wife Ingris of Rosharon, TX and Macy E. Cornwell of Sullivan; five great grandchildren; sisters: Ruby Ballard of Shelbyville and Nadine McCabe of Marion, IL; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Clay was preceded in death by his parents; son: Patrick L. Clay and brothers-in law: Charles Ballard and Elmer McCabe.
Private graveside services will be held in Jordan Cemetery, Shelbyville Twp., Shelby County, IL Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard.
