Betty June Dobbins Heilman, 85, passed away on December 12, 2013. She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Dr. E. Bruce Heilman: their daughters; Bobbie Heilman Murphy and husband Mike, Nancy Heilman Cale and husband Fred, Terry Heilman Sylvester and husband David, Sandy Heilman Kuehl and husband Fred; their son Tim Heilman; their grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Hudgins, Whitney Sylvester, Hilary Sylvester Disher, Natalie Sylvester Foy, Carly Sylvester Parsons, Dylan and Morgan Davis, Corey Heilman, Nicholas VanderMeer, and Patrick Heilman; great grandchildren, George and Anna Disher, Theodore Foy and Banks Hudgins; and her sisters, Donna Cain, Sherry Kettler and Marsha Blanchard. Mrs. Heilman exhibited warmth and generosity throughout her service as the first lady of the University of Richmond while Dr. Heilman was President from 1971 to 1986. She was a loving mother and grandmother and blessed so many others with her strong faith, selfless spirit and commitment to helping those in need. There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 21, at 2 p.m. at Cannon Memorial Chapel, University of Richmond . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the E. Bruce and Betty Heilman Scholarship at the University of Richmond , established to make it possible for students with financial need to attend the University.
