OTTUMWA — Harold Donald "Uncle Don" Aeschliman, 65, of Marengo, went to be with his Lord at 2:18 p.m. Feb. 27, 2008, at Marengo Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 22, 1942 in Lancaster, Mo. to Harold and Doris McElhinney Aeschliman. A graduate of Lancaster High School in 1960, he served in the Army with the Infantry in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. A resident of Amana for 38 years, he worked for Amana Refrigeration for 38 years, retiring in 2006 and moving to Marengo. He was a member of Lancaster United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Mo. and attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Ottumwa. The main things in his life were his niece, two nephews, and three great-nephews. He was a loving son, brother and uncle.
Surviving is a sister, Sandra (David) Longdo of Ottumwa; a brother, David (Barbara) Aeschliman of Hollister, Mo.; two nephews, Todd Aeschliman of Branson, Mo. and Randy (Cathi) Scott of Mission, Kan.; a niece, Tamara (Jeff) Hein of Tipton, Ind.; five great-nephews, Jacob and Nathan Hein, Devon Scott, Tyler and David Marty.
Don is the first of 11 cousins to go to be with the Lord. Also surviving are many special friends at the Colony Inn Restaurant in the Amanas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His body has been cremated and the family will hold memorial services at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in Ottumwa or to the donor's choice.
