Wade Hampton Robertson "Watie"
Was killed in the Civil war, he was a confederate Cherokee Mounted Rifle soldier who fought bravely to defend and protect the Cherokee citizens of Tahlequah, Oklahoma against the Union enemy and Kansas Red legs. Wade Hampton Robertson parents named him after the famous Major General Wade Hampton of South Carolina. Watie is a cherokee word that means "Stand Firm" or De Gata Ga.

Wade Hampton Robertson was a member of Company E. Second Indian Home Guards. He was killed in a skirmish at Tahlequah, originally buried in the Cherokee Capitol Square but later removed to the City Cemetery.
