Matilda J. "Tillie" (Kudla) Cierpial, 99, of Chicopee, died on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at home. Matilda was born on June 11, 1914 in Chicopee and was a life-long resident. She was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Tobol) Kudla. Matilda was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and a member of the Rosary Society. She is predeceased by her husband, Alexander A. Cierpial, who died on March 31, 2000 and her son, Ronald D. Cierpial, who died on November 28, 2013, the former owners of the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Homes. Matilda is also predeceased by a brother Victor Kudla "Vic Curly", and five sisters, Emily Kudla, Sophie Kudla, Stella Sawa, Bertha Gauthier and Wanda Dominik. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Ann Cierpial of Chicopee and Sandra Eaton and her husband, Stuart of Mooresville, NC; a daughter-in-law, Maryanne Cierpial of Chicopee; seven grandchildren Darlene Cierpial of Chicopee, Deborah Ziemba and her husband, James of Ludlow, Dawn Stamborski of Chicopee, Denise Courchesne and her husband, Steven of Chicopee, James LaFleur of Boston, Alyssa Boudreau and her husband, Jason of Springfield and Aubin Whitaker and her husband, Craig of Richmond, KY; ten great grandchildren, Ronald T. Cierpial and his fianc, Brenda LaFlamme, Melissa Viens and her husband, Nick, Alexis, Zachary and Joseph Ziemba, Nicholas Stamborski, Andrew and Katelyn Courchesne, Danielle and Alayna Whitaker and three great great grandchildren, Hailey, Sophia and Bella Viens and two sisters, Marion Anderson of Chicopee and Rose Heston of Sacramento, CA. Matilda's family would like to thank Dr. Stanley Glasser and his staff, Mercy Home Care and Hospice in particular, nurses, Sharon Pinkerton, Dina Saykin, Marsha Greco and Donna Kasabula and additional supporting care givers, Pat Church and Joy Harrington. Matilda's funeral will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 69 East St., Chicopee Falls at 10 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, 566 Front St. in Chicopee at 11 am. Her burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee.
