This morning Massey Thomas, a pioneer of '49, died at his home, south of Gilroy. He was born In Kentucky in I8I3, but in early life accompanied his parents to Missouri. He crossed the plains in 1849.He first engaged in mining. He returned to Missouri in I851 and on his return to California came direct to Gilroy Township in 1853. He engaged in farming and stock raising and owned a large estate near Gilroy, which he divided equally among his children and grandchildren a few years ago.
