Pfc. Joseph A. Quiroz, 21, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Quiroz of 9130 Baltimore av., who was killed last month in Viet Nam, will be buried today in St. Mary's cemetery, Oak Lawn, after mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church, 3200 E. 91st st.
The family has asked permission from the army to exhume the body of another son, Anthony Allen, who was killed at age 18 in Korea in 1950, to bury alongside Joseph. Anthony is buried in Rock Island National cemetery.
Joseph, a graduate of Chicago Vocational High school, was killed Jan. 31 in a skirmish with the Viet Cong. He had written his parents recently that he would be "out in the field for about a month... and not to worry." He had been in Viet Nam since November.
**There is a descrepancy in the date of death in the newspaper article from the information I already had; I will have to research this information
The parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the South Chicago neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois suffered more war dead during the Vietnam War than any other Catholic parish in the U.S. This monument, erected in 1970 stands in memory of the sacrifice of twelve parishioners. It is located across the street from the church at 91st Street and Brandon in South Chicago.
THANKS TO ALL FOR THEIR FLOWERS AND SENTIMENTS.
THEY ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
