He was born in Brownsburg to the late Earl and Mary (Salmon) Duling. He married June (Skinner) Duling of Marion on May 8, 1939. She survives in Wawpecong near Kokomo.

He was employed formerly at Anaconda Wire and Cable and Dana Corp., Marion, and then at Daimler-Chrysler, Kokomo. He retired in June 1980 from Daimler-Chrysler Corp. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Marion. In the 1950s, he and his wife, June, were instrumental in the "church planting" of Home Avenue Nazarene Church (now Lincoln Boulevard Nazarene).
