APPALACHIA, Va. — Janet Baker McKenzie, 88, passed away Wednesday (April 30, 2014) at The Laurels in Norton, Va.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Appalachia, and was a member of the Lottie Moon Mission circle. She was also a member of the East Stone Gap Alumni Association. She was the owner and teacher of Sugar & Spice preschool, as well as a teacher's aide at Appalachia Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald McKenzie Sr.; daughter, Mary Iris Taylor and her husband Buster Taylor; parents, Doyle and Mary Baker; brother, Bill Baker.
Janet is survived by one son, Donald McKenzie Jr. and his wife Mary of Summersville, W.Va.; grandchildren, Gabe McKenzie, Erin McKenzie, McKenzie Taylor; great-grandchildren, Knox Taylor, Aubriana Taylor; sisters, Bernice Boggs, Evelyn Pitts, and Luella Davis.
The family will receive friends at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home on Friday from noon to 2 p.m. with services at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel officiated by Rev. Jeff Sams.
A procession will follow to the American Legion Cemetery, where graveside services will be held.
