Alfred, of Mason, Michigan, passed away after an illness on April 26, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Stephen Kmiecik and sister Gloria Sabitini.

After high school Al served from 1961 to 1965 in the US Air Force, stationed in Korea. When discharged Al landed in CA where he stayed to attend California SU - Stanislaus and received his degree in Liberal Arts.

Al's passion as a teenager was photography and after college he moved back to MI and went to work for Chrysler Corporation where he stayed until retirement in 1999 as a specialty photographer. Al also loved hydroplane racing and enjoyed the photography that went with it.

To all who knew Al his name was never presented without "Uncle" or "Big" in front of it. Every kid in the neighborhood knew they could count on Uncle Al for a ride on the tractor, fireworks and the "tweaking" of any mechanical apparatus or devise. You could say any word, any word, and Al could tell you a joke about it.

And Al loved his motor home. He traveled the US west with friends and family and enjoyed just parking it in his driveway for visitors to join in the fun. Always in the evening by a campfire, the neighborhood knew they were welcome there anytime.

Al spent the past 30 years living in Mason with his beloved wife Donna (Mattila) Kmiecik and was dear father of Jessica Ann Kmiecik and Theodore (Sara Finney) Kmiecik.

Al will be remembered for his welcoming nature, a great joke, and the best hugs.

A funeral mass was held at St. James Catholic Church, Mason on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. A memorial mass, with Father Kenneth McDonald officiating was held.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so might make a contribution in Al's name to the Lansing City Rescue Mission or the Salvation Army, his two favorite charities.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Mason Chapel.
