Killed in the Mexican-American War - 1847

Adams, David Lieut. of the South Carolina Regiment was killed at the Battles of Contreras/Cherubusco [near Mexico City], Edgefield Advertiser 9/15/1847, p2; 2nd Lieut. David Adams of Co. C, SC Vols. PALMETTO REGIMENT was killed at the Battles of Contreras/Cherubusco, Edgefield Advertiser 9/22/1847, p1; Edgefield Advertiser 10/27/1847, p3; Lieut. Adams was killed while bearing the flag of the company. Edgefield Advertiser 12/8/1847, p2; a letter written by D. L. Adams stated that his son's servant CHARLES was near the Regiment at the time it was attacked by guerrillas and knowing that his master was in danger and probably thinking he would be killed, CHARLES snatched up a musket and ran and fought by his side until the Regiment went to their relief. David was the son of David L Adams of South Carolina.
Charles (his slave) was later emancipated for his meritorious servcie and loyalty to his master.
