JOSEPH SOBEL
(1894 - 1950)

ACCIDENT VICTIM DIES AT HOSPITAL

Joseph Sobel, 55, of route 1, Manitowoc, injured in a traffic mishap Nov. 24, died Sunday in Holy Family hospital where he has been confined since the accident.

Coroner Theodore Teitgen said death was not due to injuries sustained in the accident. The patient died of Leukemia, a blood condition with which he had been afflicted for several years, Doctor Teitgen explained. Sobel was injured when the car he was driving skidded on slippery pavement as he attempted to pass another car on highway 141, just north of Francis Creek, according to county traffic reports.

The victim was returning from deer hunting and had a deer lashed to his car when it went out of control, went off the left side of the highway and crashed into a building which formerly housed the Adolph Shenian cheese factory.

Sobel was taken by ambulance to Holy Family hospital where he was found to be suffering a broken left leg and facial and chest lacerations.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pfeffer funeral home and at 9 a.m. at the St. Mary Catholic church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. John Landowski will officiate.

Mr. Sobel was born in Manitowoc in 1894 and was a lifetime resident of the city. He was a welder at the shipyards at the time of his accident. His wife, the former Jennie Markowski whom he married in 1915, died in 1948.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Richard Rehrauer of route 1, Manitowoc; three sons, Marvin and Joseph, Jr., of route 1, Manitowoc, and Richard of Manitowoc; three sisters, Mrs. Francis Revolinsky of Milwaukee, Mrs. Martin Rydzewski of Manitowoc, and Mrs. Joseph Kolodzeske of Manitowoc; and two grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Tuesday until time of services. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
