Joseph Nilsson Bauge was born in Norway the first child of the ten children born to Nils J. Bauge (Memorial# 129243963) and Synneva/Soneva Bauge (Memorial# 129243017). Joseph Nilsson Bauge emigrated to the U.S. in 1861 with his parents, Nils J. and Synneva Bauge and his brothers when he was 19 yrs old, Thor was 17 yrs., Axel 15 yrs., John 12 yrs., Ole 7 yrs., and Lars 2 yrs. old. Two more children were born in Illinois: Nels and Marie.

On Feb. 1, 1874, he married Jula Halverson Bauge in Kendall County, IL. Julia was the daughter of Goodman and his 2nd wife, Inger (Berge) Halverson.

Joe and Julia had 10 children:

J.N. Bauge, from Vernon, Died Wednesday

J.N. Bauge, an aged and prominent farmer, passed away at his home in Vernon township Wednesday, December 12. At the time of his death he was 74 years, 10 months, and 26 days of age. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon by the Rev. L.O. Thorson at the Lutheran church in Dows. Interment was made in Dows.

He was born in Norway January 16, 1843 and came to America with his parents in 1861, settling in Kendall county, Illinois. In 1866 he moved to Story county, this state, and after a short residence there moved to Emmet County. On the 1st day of February, 1874, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Halverson of Millbrook, Illinois, who survives him. To this union there were born six daughters and four sons, who are left to mourn his loss. Besides his wife and children there are one sister, five brothers and eleven grandchildren surviving.
