Dick Swenson

Richard Heber "Dick" Swenson was born in Salt Lake City to Axel Richard & Helen Irene Shingleton Swenson, & grew up during the Great Depression. He graduated from West High School, married Lillian Barton, & was drafted into the Army. He was wounded while serving as a medic in Florence, Italy while taking wounded soldiers to a farm house in the mountains for which he received the Purple Heart.

He worked for California Ink Company (subsequently Cal Ink, Tenneco Chemicals & Flint Ink); then Swenson Printing for a total of 66 years in the printing industry.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry Gordon, sister Helen Marlene & his wife.

He is survived by a sister Bonnie Jean Swenson Jacketta, son Owen Richard (Betty), daughter Jeniel (Brent) Metcalf, five grandchildren Julie (Bryce) Highfield, Melissa (Brian) Lambson, Lauri (James) Wood, Stacy (Nick) Newman, C. J. Swenson & 15 great grandchildren Zachary & Jessica Highfield, MaKayla Pirio, Jarom, Calista, Taylor & Tanner Lambson, Kiera, Haylie, Matthew & Aubree Wood, Jackson, Lucy, Cameron & Molly Newman.

Dick enjoyed cats, opera, reading newspapers and watching sports.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 2:00pm at Larkin Sunset Lawns, 2350 E. 1300 S. SLC UT, with a viewing from 1:00-1:45pm. Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawns to follow.
