Elsie Andrews Blackwell, a retired teacher with the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at her residence in Baton Rouge. She was 87 and a native of Lottie.

Visiting was at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visiting at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. James M. Thornhill. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Survived by her husband, Wendell W. "Ben" Blackwell; a son, Dennis A. Blackwell; three sisters, Jean Lafleur, Winnie Obrien and Hellen Burns; a brother, Charles Andrews; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Lindell Jean Blackwell; four sisters, Melba Martin, Mae Ballard, Loraine Owens and Inez Barr; a son, Wendell Wesley Blackwell; and two brothers, Julius Andrews and Claude Andrews.

Pallbearers will be Joel Blackwell, Joshua Blackwell, Rex Thornhill, Jonathan Blackwell, Thomas "Foots" LaPorte, Bob Boesch and Ed Williams.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
She was a member of Lanier Baptist Church.
