ARLINGTON – John L. Gardner, 89, died May 4, 2014, at Waldron Place, Hutchinson. He was born March 2, 1925, in Plevna, to L.F. and Lula (Smith) Gardner.
John graduated from Plevna High School in 1942 and was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed golfing and square dancing with his wife. On Dec. 18, 1944, he married Evelyn Cole in Kingman. She survives. Other survivors include: children, Virginia Fitzpatrick and husband Warren of Lake Dallas, Texas, Carolyn McInteer and husband Mac of Minneola, Tom Gardner of Derby; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Glenn and Gene Gardner.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Joyce Beam officiating. Burial will be in Lerado Cemetery, rural Arlington.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John L. Gardner Scholarship Fund at Hutchinson Community College, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
