"Uncle John? An analysis of "Granny's Trunk"
by Margret Grace (Potter) Unruh 1998
(NOTE: There is no page numbers given, but the chapter is titled "Joe Potter".)
Aunt Eunice decided she wanted to adopt one of the children, Joe, a cute little four-year-old. She was allowed to do so, and Joe came to live with us. His oldest brother, Jesse B., his sister, June, and younger brother, Vernon, went to live with their grandmother, Mrs Brown, in Garden City, Kansas. Joe was usually with them every Saturday, when we went to town to shop. In the summer, they would always go swimming together in Garden City's big pool. Another brother, Howard, was taken to Oma's sister. We never saw him again.
