BALTIMORE, DORIS V. Of Jackson, passed away May 5, 2014, age 84. A celebration of her life will be held at Second Baptist Church, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 1 PM with family hour starting at 12 PM. Doris V. Baltimore
June 24, 1929 - May 5, 2014

Obituary

Doris Virginia Baltimore went home to be with the Lord on May 5th, 2014. Doris was born on June 24, 1929 in Clarksdale, Mississippi. She was the oldest child of the late Lonnie Riley Sr. and Ophelia Adams. Doris was educated in Clarksdale, MS through high school and she attended Rusk College until moving to Jackson, MI where she attended Jackson Community College. Doris was united in marriage on August 20th, 1948 to Henry L. Baltimore, Sr. and to this union 8 children were born. The Baltimore's relocated to Jackson, MI in 1956 and united with Second Baptist Church.

Doris has served faithfully for over 5o years as a Sunday school teacher, mission teacher, program coordinator chairperson, and a member of several choirs. At the state level she served extensively in the chain lake district as secretary and assistant secretary for the Women's Auxiliary. Doris loved to travel to state, national meetings and conferences. She received many advanced certificates of education from the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. Doris loved to sing. You could find her singing in the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education choir each year that she attended through 2013.

Doris was employed with Jackson County Medical Care Facility and Hall & Kennedy.

The joy of her life was raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending family reunions because family was so important to her.

Doris was active in the Jackson community for many years. Her experiences included being a volunteer for Respite Care with Catholic Social Services, Vice President and secretary of the Peace council, member of the NAACP, member of the Multi-Ethnic Human Relations, den mother with Boy Scouts and assistant troop leader with the Girl Scouts.

Doris departed this life on Monday, May 5, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years: Henry L. Baltimore, Sr.; sons: Henry Jr., Thomas and Bobby Baltimore; step son, Clarence Powell Jr.; two brothers: John and Lonnie Riley.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory her children: Lural Baltimore, Lonnie Baltimore (Norma) both of Lansing, MI; Debra Baltimore of Canton, MI; William Baltimore (Jeanette) of Overland Park, KS; and Yvonne Brown (James) of Reynoldsburg, OH.

In addition to her children she will be greatly missed by 18 grandchildren: Nicole, Charles "Tony", LaKedia, LeTisha, Angela, Shavonie, LaMar, LaRia, Matthew, Diamond, Katelyn, Thaddeus, Emanuel, Sean, Brianna, Gabrielle, Aaron and Marlo; 7 great grandchildren: Antaysia, Cheyenne, Dominique, Paris, Malea, Harlen and Kimiah; sister, Lula Avery Adams of Clarksdale, MS; sisters-in-law, Blanche Hunt of Memphis, TN and Lura Riley of Chicago, IL; adopted children, Rev. Melvin T. Jones and Sallie Jones, Ray Boykin, Wanda and Keith Lipscomb; special friend, Eugene Thomas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at Second Missionary Baptist Church (304 E. Prospect St., Jackson) on Tuesday May 13, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with family hour starting at 12:00 P.M. Burial Roseland Cemetery. Viewing at the Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (406 First St., Jackson) Monday 3-7 P.M.
