Henry C. Carstens, 96, of 114 Washington Street, Brillion, died Saturday at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, following a stroke.

He was born May 24, 1887 in Manitowoc Rapids, a son of Henry and Anna Meyer Carstens.

He married Marie Schwantz June 15, 1912 at Newton. They lived in Chilton following their marriage.

Mr. Carstens was a miller and worked at flour mills at Manitowoc, Milwaukee and Chilton before moving to Brillion in 1916 where he founded the Brillion Mill and Elevator Co., which he operated as a flour mill until 1934. It was then converted to a feed mill and farm supply company and became known as Henry Carstens and Sons. In 1939, they purchased a feed mill in Kaukauna and operated that under the same name.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Brillion, and was active in church and civic organizations.

Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. William (Margaret) Schriefer of New Ulm, Minnesota; two sons, Richard of Kaukauna and Edward of Brillion; 10 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brillion. The Rev. Harland Kuschel officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
