HARDY, Helen A 104, Clearwater resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mary Turner, on Sunday July 20. Born in Reno, NV, on Aug 22, 1903, she was the daughter of Dick Evans and Gertrude Rhodes Arrowsmith. She was the youngest of six children. The family owned and operated a mule ranch in the Doyle, CA area. In 1903, the Arrowsmith family returned to Hicksville, OH and remained there throughout Helen's childhood. On June 14, 1927, she was graduated from Ohio State University in Columbus, OH, with a BS in journalism. She was initiated into Theta Sigma Phi, journalism honorary, and Chi Delta Phi, honorary literary society. The same year, she began her career as a society editor and reporter for the Sandusky Register. In 1929, she joined the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and worked in the women's and feature story departments. Helen was named editor of the Wapakoneta Daily News in 1963, and was listed in the 1966 and 1968 editions of the Who's Who in the Midwest, as well as the 1966-1969 editions of the World's Who's Who of Commerce and Industry. She and her husband moved to Pine Island, FL, in 1972, and to Clearwwater in 1989. She is survived by her daughter, Mary H Turner; five grandchildren (Brooks and Holly Blain, and Jeff, Mike, and John Turner); and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, W Glenn Hardy, her daughter, Ann H Blain, and grandson, Beau Blain.
