Arlington – Jimmy Sam Modisett, 74, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Tuesday morning, July 5, 2005, at an Arlington hospital.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 2101 S. Davis Drive, Arlington. Additionally, a service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Zavalla at Concord Baptist Church. Burial: Concord Cemetery, Zavalla. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Jim Modisett was born Jan. 5, 1931, near Zavalla. He grew up on a farm in the Piney Woods of East Texas. As a young man, Jim proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force in the 97th Refueling Squadron. He moved to Arlington in 1954 and worked for General Motors for 36 years until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life. Jim enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their respective academic and sports activities. Children were drawn to him for his open arms, big heart and playful nature.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Alexander and Bertie McGaughey Modisett.

Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Opal Lene Modisett of Arlington; son, Dennis Modisett and wife, Diane, of Crowley; daughter, Linda Laurents and husband, Chuck, of Arlington; brothers, Charles Berwin Modisett and wife, Gloria, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carey Alexander Modisett and wife, Sylvia, of Huntington; sisters, Bertie Charmian "Kay" McFarland and husband, Wendell, of Joshua and Flora Elizabeth "Moddy" Jaderlund and husband, Walt, of Arlington; grandchildren, Mike, Michelle and Brian Modisett of Crowley, Jessica and Ryan Laurents of Arlington, Debbie and Chris Laurents and Cindy and husband, Jason Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Griffin Schmidt, all of Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.
