US Congressman. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and was the Knightsville, Rhode Island, town clerk (1773-1800). He was a member of the Rhode Island State Legislature, (1783, 1787) and Sheriff of Providence County in 1787. In 1803, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Congresses, serving until his death at age 62. US Senator Nehemiah Rice Knight was his son.
