Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy"(Green) Sweet passed away January 3, 2006, after a more than two year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. An active member of the South Bend, Ind., community since the late 1950s, Peggy moved to Bloomington, Ind., in 2003. She was born at St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights, Ill., to Eleanor and William Green, who preceded her in death. She and her identical twin sister, Marcella "Marcie" Esther (Green) Kuykendall, who preceded her in death, were graduates of Bloom High School, Chicago Heights, Ill., along with their sister Gloria "Tootie" (Green) Pascarella, who survives. Prior to her marriage in 1950 to John Joseph Sweet, Milwaukee, Wis., who survives, she worked at the Museum of Science and Industry and as a Personal Assistant to the Honorable Judge and Mrs. Hollahdin Chicago, Ill. Peggy was a rare and dynamic woman. She was a spirited friend to many, never met a stranger and was a devoted, proud and wonderful single-parent mother who lived and worked for her family. She is survived and will always be forever missed and treasured by her children Susan Elizabeth Sweet, Jacalyn Ann Goodman, and Leslie Ann Worth-Wilson and husband, Paul Wilson, all of Bloomington, Ind.; and David Michael Sweet and his wife, Valerie, of Flagstaff, Arizona; and her grandchildren, Maxwell David Worth, Ian Emory Wilson, Alexandra Grace Sweet Goodman, and Haley Karen and Jake David Sweet.

She loved life, was an avid reader and was always on the go. She was blessed to have many very good friends throughout her life. Dedicated to her health and without resources for a car, she walked, rode the bus or bicycled most of her life. She had a beautiful voice and loved music and theatre. She was active in South Bend's Presbyterian Players, and performed in many of their musicals. She served as Secretary of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra for over a decade. For many years, she was active in the St. Joseph County Republican Party. She also worked at the South Bend Water Works and Credit Bureau.

Peggy had a passion for people, dogs, antiques, books and collectibles. She loved the holidays and always made them beautiful and special, with wonderful late suppers and cheer for her family, friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Welsheimer's Funeral Home, William Street, South Bend, Ind. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m., and one hour before her memorial service, which will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006. Burial will be immediately following at Homewood Gardens Cemetery, Chicago Heights, Ill. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Bloomington, Ind., for those whose lives she touched there.
