A Fullback at the University of Wisconsin from 1907-09, Mr. Wilce coached at his alma mater and later at OSU for a number of years. At OSU he accumulated a record of 78–33–9 and holds the second longest coaching tenure at OSU after Wayne Woodrow "Woody" Hayes.
Dr. Wilce earned degrees in cardiology from the University of Edinburgh in the 1930s and taught medicine at Ohio State. The university honored him by naming the student health center after him in 1969.
Dr. Wilce earned other honors... in 1954 he earned a place in the College Football Hall of Fame and in 1977 induction in the "Block O" Hall of Fame.
Dr. Wilce is credited with coining the phrase "intestinal fortitude" in 1916 while lecturing his student athletes.
