EAST PEORIA - William Junior Vickers, 77, of Elvaston, Ill., formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Ill.
He was born on May 16, 1936, in Searcy County, Ark., a son of John Kenneth and Jessie Fariss Vickers. He married Marjorie A. Cooper on May 20, 1957, in Carthage, Ill. She survives in Elvaston.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Jessie Vickers of Elvaston, Ill.; one son, Darrell "Butch" (Nancy) Vickers of Springfield, Ill.; three daughters, Sheila (Bobby) Westhafer of Mapleton, Ill., Lisa (Mike) Wallace of Platteville, Wis., and Jennifer (John) Waltz of Morton, Ill.; three sisters, LeVonda (Roger) Sparrow of Mission, Texas, Loretta (James) Jinkens of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Joyce (Randy) Day of Quincy, Ill.; one brother, Donald (Debbie) Vickers of Harrison, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Amy, Heidi, Whitney, Jacob, Kayla, Andrea, Brady and Carrigan; and four great-grandchildren, Charles, John, David and Tani.
Junior was preceded in death by his biological mother, Seawilla Branscum, who died when Junior was a young child; his father; a son, Douglas Alan Vickers; a grandson, Shaun Westhafer; and a brother, Lenville Vickers.
Junior attended Warsaw and Hamilton schools.
He had worked at Drydens in Keokuk and Hiram Walker in Hamilton. He was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria, retiring after 33 years.
Junior was a longtime member of Elvaston Community Church, where he remained very active.
Junior enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mowing his yard. He was a member of Traveling Tromper Camping Club and enjoyed camping. He strived to live a good and moral life and to set an example for others. He loved his dog, Molly. He was hard-working and felt that his family was most important. He especially loved the time he spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 12, 2014, after 2 p.m., with family meeting friends between 4 and 7 p.m. at Lamporte-St. Clair Funeral Home of Hamilton. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Elvaston Community Church in Elvaston, with Pastors Mike Shea and Ronald Leonard officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, Ill.
Memorials have been established for Elvaston Community Church or can be made to the donor's choice.
