Udney was a former Liberal M.P.P. for Wellington East, serving 1911-1920. He was also the former owner of the Elora Mill, converting it from a flour mill and distillery, to a wood planning mill circa 1900.

Obituary - Died at Elora - Udney Richardson, Elora representative on the Grand River Conservation Commission for many years, who died suddenly Tuesday at his home in Elora in his seventh-fourth year. Mr. Richardson was Liberal Member of the Ontario Legislature from 1911 until 1920 for South Wellington. Born in Garafraxa Township, he had lived in Elora for fifty-three years. He served as Reeve of Elora at one time, and the day before his sudden death he was re-elected by acclamation to the Elora Hydro Commission. Besides his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C.A. Rae, Toronto, and Mrs. Margaret Russell, Arthur, Ont. The funeral is to be conducted Friday afternoon at Elora, and will be attended by many members of the Grand River Conservation Commission from Brantford and other municipalities."
