PVT - 6th Light Artillery Maine Battery VRC Union Soldier - Civil War.

Mr. Horace Shephard Gove for many years past a resident of Fort Gates, and one of the best known and most highly esteemed citizens of the county, died Wednesday night at his home, following a short illness. The news of his death will be received with surprise and regret by his many friends throughout this section.
The remains were prepare for shipping through here last night. (Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 25 Jul 1919.)
Jacksonville - Horace Shephard Gove, aged 81 years, died Thursday at his home at Fort Gates. Mr. Gove was a native of the State of Maine, but had been a resident of Florida for a number of years and has many friends who will regret to learn of his death. He is survived by his wife. The body arrived in this city Friday morning and was removed to the parlors of Marcus Conant, corner of Laura and Union streets. The interment was in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery - Times-Union. (Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 1 Aug 1919.)
