Wilbert W. "Woody" Guetschow, age 97, of 2531 Sandy Bay Road, Two Rivers, died Thursday evening, March 1, 2012 at the Wisteria Haus in Two Rivers.

Wilbert was born May 22, 1914 in Two Rivers, son of the late Emil A. and Mathilda (Zierzow) Guetschow. He attended Rangeline Elementary School and Washington High School in Two Rivers. On June 6, 1935 he married Virginia R. Greenwood in Belvidere, IL. She preceded him in death on November 22, 1979. He was employed as a machinist at Kahlenberg Brothers. Wilbert enjoyed gardening, walking, and all sports especially baseball and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wilbert was a member of the Manitowoc County Old Timers Baseball League, and had played for Francis Creek in the Manitowoc County Hardball League from 1933 until 1949. He was player and manager of the Two Rivers Cool City Cubs and Polar Bears intermediately from 1950 through 1954. Wilbert also played on several County championship teams. He was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: Leland Guetschow, Manitowoc; Keith and Sherrie Guetschow, Two Rivers; three granddaughters: Kathy (Jeff) Juul, Kelli (Cory) Zimmer, Vicki Gilbert, all of Manitowoc; six great grandchildren: Kyle and Tyler Juul, Colton and Carley Zimmer, Evan and Logan Gilbert; and one brother: Emil A. Guetschow, Two Rivers. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Rayfield, Arnold, Arthur, Edgar, infant brother, Orville; and one sister: Florence Vondrachek.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Tom Reynebeau with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery .

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. led by Sister Pat Touhey.

Visitation will continue on Monday, March 5,2012 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
