G. Lee Terry, 64, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rexburg, died June 22, 2005.
He was born December 29, 1940, in Rexburg, Idaho, to Learin A. Terry and the late Edna Grover Terry. He attended schools in Archer and Rexburg, and graduated from Madison High School in 1959. He spent two years in Sweden before attending Utah State University and graduated in 1968 with degrees in political science and education.
In 1967, he married Rhonda Hammond; they divorced. In 1991, he married Judy Irene Smith. He taught U.S. history and world geography in the Madison School District for 31 years, and spent 14 years as the Madison High School Cross Country coach. He was active in the Idaho Education Association, National Education Association, Rexburg Chamber of Commerce and the Madison County Democratic Party, and he ran for the state Legislature in 2000.
He enjoyed running, hiking, kayaking, fishing, reading, gardening and cross-country skiing. He completed 33 marathons, including the Boston and New York City marathons. He and his wife spent the past 15 years traveling together in Western Europe and the United States. Lee loved and adored his two grandchildren, Chelsea and Tiana.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Terry of Idaho Falls; his children, Chera Focazio of Chandler, Arizona, and Crista Terry of Idaho Falls; father, Learin Albert Terry of Idaho Falls; sister, Jennie Lyn Siggard of Brigham City, Utah; and brother, Doug Terry of Boise. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, at Madison High School Auditorium, 134 Madison Ave. in Rexburg.
