CLARA MAE ALSIP, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday night, May 11, 2014 at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born May 15, 1922 in Osage County, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Harley Rogers and Birdie Beatrice Chandler. Clara Mae received her education in many places due to her family traveling all over the United States while she was growing up.

She was united in marriage to Richard Dale Alsip, Sr. on August 6, 1941 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Silverdale. In 1952, they entered the ministry of the Southern Baptist Church. They served their first pastorate in Nardin, Oklahoma. Richard and Clara Mae served churches in Missouri until moving to Cambridge in 1964. They pastored at Cambridge Baptist Church from 1964 to 1966 and continued to help with that church as well as Central Baptist Church in Winfield during the 70's. In 1985, they took pastorship of Cambridge Baptist Church again. Clara Mae had transferred her membership from Cambridge to Central Baptist Church. Mr. Alsip preceded her in death on April 12, 1987.

She worked for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for over 20 years as a nurse's assistant. She retired in 1986. She enjoyed word searches, plastic canvas and doing crochet when she was younger. She was also an avid Bingo player.

Her family includes: Her sons: Richard Dale Alsip, Jr. and wife, Darlene of Winfield; Larry Dean Alsip of Ponca City, OK; Her brothers: Rodney Wilson and wife, Elsie of Ponca City, OK; Grant Wilson and wife, Margaret of Arkansas City; Her sister: Patty Burns and husband, Wayne of Florida; Her grandchildren: Anita Parker and husband, Tracy; Richard Alsip, III; Joletta Wilson and husband, David; Rebecca Crowley and husband, Robert; Robert Walton; Timothy Walton; Donald Walton; Kathy Logan; Kenny Walton and wife, Kathy; Carl Walton; Her great grandchildren: Tara Fry and husband, JR; Tracy Griffith and fiance, Travis Jordan; Kali Wallace and fiance, Nate Lemmons; Cassandra Beamer and fiance, Joe Snedeker; Jessica McFarland; Christina Alsip and fiance, Tymothy Crawford; Merika Wilson; Katie Carey; Brett Walton; Kristin Walton; Timothy Walton, Jr.; David Walton; Venessa Walton; Miranda Walton; Samantha Walton; Danielle Macioge; Christopher Logan; Christina Walton; Bethann Walton; Brandon Brack; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Clara Mae was preceded in death by her step-father, Ed Wilson, her siblings, Victor Rogers, Charlotte Rogers, Allie Frances Colyar, Gloridean McFarland, and Dale Wilson, a granddaughter, Bonita Head and her daughter-in-law, Betty Alsip.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Parker Cemetery east of Arkansas City. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to RiverCross Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
