He served as a pilot in the Air Force 8th Division during WWII, where he flew a B17 called the Flying Fortress in 25 missions over Germany. His squadron also flew with the massive humane mission called Operation Food Drop over the Netherlands, and also took part in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. Ray was preceded in death by his first wife, Marguerite Verberg; brothers, Gordon and George. He was survived by his second wife, four children,nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters and a sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
