Clemens J. Schmidt, age 73, of 1915 24th St., Two Rivers, died Monday afternoon at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish —Holy Redeemer Site, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O’Brien followed by military honors accorded by VFW Post 1248 and Two Rivers American Legion. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers, at 2 p.m.

Clemens was born on June 15, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., son of the late George and Barbara Hetzel Schmidt. He graduated from Iron River High School, Iron River, Mich., with the class of 1949. Clemens served with the U.S. Army Band from 1951 to 1953 in Oklahoma as a saxophone player. On June 26, 1954 he married the former Mary Elaine Harris at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, Mich. The couple moved to Two Rivers in 1966. Clemens worked at Hamilton Manufacturing until 1988 as a draftsman. He was then employed at St. Luke's School until 1989. Clemens was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers.

Survivors include his wife: Mary Elaine Schmidt, Two Rivers; a daughter and son-in-law: Linda and Michael Kirchen, Two Rivers; a brother: Edward Schmidt, Crystal Falls, Mich.; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law: Charles Harris Sr., Green Bay; and Lawrence and Kathy Harris, Menasha. Clemens is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish — Holy Redeemer Site, Two Rivers, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.

The Klein & Stangel Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Two Rivers, is assisting the Schmidt family with funeral arrangements.
