PENDLETON — John "Bud" Howard Barnhart, 85, of Pendleton died of complications brought on by Parkinson's disease on May 11, 2014.

He was born Dec. 14, 1928, at his grandparents' home in Hancock County to Dallas and Hazel (Anderson) Barnhart and lived and worked most of his life near Pendleton.

Bud graduated from Fortville High School in 1947 and attended Purdue extension in Indianapolis prior to enlisting in the Air Force in 1950. Bud reached Master Sergeant as a gunnery instructor in B-29s being honorably discharged in 1953.

He came home from San Antonio and began a long career as a carpenter building and remolding many homes in the Pendleton area. Bud served as an adviser to the Pendleton Heights High School vocational building trades class for many years.

Bud always enjoyed sports. He played basketball in high school and loved watching his grandchildren compete in their endeavors.

Bud volunteered on the Pendleton Emergency Ambulance in its early years.

He was a member of Eden United Methodist Church.

After retirement in 2000 Bud, having a strong interest in history, dealt in antiques and collectibles all over Indiana.

Bud was blessed in his lifetime by two extraordinary wives. Shirley Mae Livingston, whom he married in 1951 and raised five beautiful and successful children. Shirley passed away in 1983 leaving emptiness in Bud to be filled by Vivian Robinson's love and dedication. Married in 1984, these last 30 years were filled with the love and joy of his blended family.

Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Mae; parents, Dallas and Hazel; his brother, Allen Barnhart; and Vivian's daughter, Sue Haag.

Survivors are Bud's wife for 30 years, Vivian; her daughters and son, Connie (David) Wills, Lisa (Dan) Dwyer, Tina (Bill) LePage, and Allen Robinson. Bud and Shirley's children, Lynn (Larry) Pauley, John (Sheri) Barnhart, Ron (Kim) Barnhart, Sherry (Sonny) Hazelbaker and Gail Barnhart. Bud's sister, Nondus Butz, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cousins.
Bud was loving and caring to those close to him. His strong character and values will continue through those he touched.

Many thanks to the staff of the Rawlins House in Pendleton, Seasons Hospice, and Dr. George Agapios.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton with Ken Williamson officiating. Burial including military rites will follow in Mendon Cemetery, Pendleton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lahm Chapel.
