ALBERT J. VALENTA

Maribel Man Becomes County's 26th Traffic Fatality of Year
MARIBEL - Albert J. Valenta, 59, became Manitowoc County's 26th traffic victim of the year when his panel bus and a car driven by Evelyn L. Charney, 49, collided in the intersection of two Town of Maribel roads a mile south of the village Thursday noon.
The Intersection is not marked by stop signs. Both drivers were listed with Rt. 1, Maribel, addresses in the County Traffic Police report.
Valenta's death doubles the county traffic toll over the same period one year ago. Fatalities totaled 13 on Dec. 1, 1965. The county's final figure last year was 15 dead.
Died Instantly
Dr. Theodore A. Teitgen, county coroner, said Valenta died instantly of a skull fracture when he was thrown from his bus, bouncing headlong over the hood of the Charney car onto the gravel road. Mrs. Charney suffered a bruised hip and was treated at the Manitowoc Clinic, police reported.
Valenta was driving south on one of the town roads and the Charney car was eastbound on the Intersecting road when the vehicles hit in the crossing, according to the report.
The right side of Valenta's 1963 model bus was caved in. The left front end of the Charney car was damaged extensively.
Car Ditched
The impact knocked the Valenta vehicle through a fence on the Herman Wegner property and ditched the Charney car.
Mar. Valenta was born April 21, 1907, in Kewaunee County, son of the late George and Thresia Jansky Valenta. He married Rose Sladkey June 3, 1930, and the couple farmed in the Town of Cooperstown until 1958, moving to Maribel. In 1932, he formed the Valenta Concrete Products firm, and in 1962, his three sons joined him in a partnership in the business. He was a member of Rosecrans ZCBJ Lodge 114 and served as its treasurer 15 years, a former clerk of Greenstreet School, a former member of the Maribel Sportsmen's Club and a member of the Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Lorraine) Skarivoda, of Denmark and Mrs. Otmar (Dorothy) Rabas, of Maribel; three sons, Lester, Albert and Edwin, of Maribel; a brother, Charles, of Rt. 1, Denmark; three sisters, Mrs. Anton Forst, of Maribel, Mrs. William Bohacek, of Rt. 1, Whitelaw, and Mrs. Louis Staral, of Rt. 1, Mishicot; and 13 grandchildren.
