Mrs. Elizabeth "Bettye" Abney, age 82 of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on January 17, 1932 the daughter of Simpson and Ellen Hanna Denny. She was a housewife, a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, an active member of the Republican Party during ERA and enjoyed upholstery.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years: Glen Abney of Mt. Vernon; two sons: Steven Abney of Marion, IN and Daniel Abney of Mt. Vernon; one daughter: Deborah McClure of Mt. Vernon; two brothers: Paul Denny and Harry Denny both of Louisville and four sisters: Audrey Garner of Cincinnati, OH, Carol Roberts of Columbus, MS, Paulette of Miami, FL and Kathy Ratz of Indiana. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Abney was preceded in death by one son: Mike Abney, two brothers and one sister.
