SHREVEPORT – Services for Dr. William Alwin Fortson, 79, of Shreveport, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday July 9 in Frost Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Shreveport. Dr. N. O. Pugh, minister to senior adults of the church, will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel.

Dr. Fortson died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday July 6, 1985, at Schumpert Medical Center. He was born in Vivian, La. and had been a resident of Shreveport area all of his life. Dr. Fortson, retired as a Doctor of Dental Science, was a graduate of Hope Street High School, attended L.S.U., and received his D.D.S. from the School of Dentistry of Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Shreveport for over 50 years, where he was a deacon and a member and past teacher of the Triple Triangle Sunday School Class. He was a member and past president of the Shreveport Dental Association.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Grimmet Fortson of Shreveport; three daughters, Marian Fortson Sakalauskas of Big Rapids, Mich., Elizabeth Fortson Wells of Alexandria, Va. and Louise Fortson Kinstrey of Shreveport; one sister, Mrs. Ouida Fortson McClellan of Shreveport; three granddaughters and two grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Dr. E. E. Dilworth, Col. Louis M. Gregory, Dr. Albert M. Hand, Gen. John Spencer Hardy, Wellborn Jack, Sr., H. W. Saunders, Dr. U. H. Stoer and Marshall H. Walker.

Honorary pallbearers: Emmett Hadad and Bernard Rothschild.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Shreveport.
