Born in New York City, Charles was raised in Brooklyn in the Finntown section* and made lifelong friendships. Charles served in the US Army as a Lieutenant in the Corp of Engineers during World War II. He earned a degree in Engineering from New York University and was employed by American Electric Power in New York City for 45 years.
Charles never met a stranger and was active for over 50 years at the Huntington YMCA, Senior Center and the Northport Tennis Club. He traveled extensively participating in Elder hostel courses and Club Med adventures where he mastered many sports, including wind surfing.
Above all, Charles had a love for the game of tennis. He played in numerous tennis tournaments throughout the country and received countless awards and certificates for his remarkable tennis court abilities.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Doris, and his brother, Bill. He is survived by sons Jeffrey (Elaine) of New Roads, LA, Andrew (Lee) of Roswell GA, and grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gregory, Caroline, and Charles.
Charles had chosen to donate his body to the anatomical gift program at the Stony Brook School of Medicine.
Following the cremation, the family is planning a celebration of life service.
