Henry was an only child born to Henry Carl Henninger Sr. and Dorthy S. Ponton (later Phelps) in their home in GoValle, Austin, Travis County, Texas. He grew up on Tillery Street and was born July 24, 1939. He attended Austin High School and went into the auto mechanics field directly, retiring from that career in 2012. For many years he worked with his father, Henry C. Henninger Sr., then more recently with Gordon Automotive, where he later retired. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, playing his guitar, spending time with his family, and continuing daily his transformation into the likeness of Jesus Christ through devotions, Bible study, worship on his piano and ministering to those in need. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

The memorial service to honour and celebrate Henry's life took place at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Texas on April 26, 2014. Henry was cremated with ashes interred at Haynie Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Garfield, Travis County,TX. This is the church that his parents Henry Henninger Sr. and Ruth McCollough attended, and was also the church were Henry Henninger, Jr. married wife Jennifer Elliott, in 1982.
