Leora was born at Leslie August 4, 1933, and grew up in Nicholas County.
Leora and Woodrow lived in Elkview since 1994 and are members of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Elkview.Leora led a life of many accomplishments and blessings. She graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology Nursing School and served many years as an RN at Montgomery General and CAMC. She also taught health occupations at Carver and Garnet Career Centers and worked at a nursing home in Glasgow. Her kind and gentle support provided quality of life for her mother-in-law, Pina McClung, and aunt, Ida McClung, during the last years of their lives.She loved watching wildlife around her home, tending to her flowers and gardening, and most of all, caring for her grandchildren and family. She was a devout Christian who read the Bible daily and lived by the word of God. She amazed her family and friends with her remarkable strength, spirit, and determination to overcome many health challenges, and without complaint. She loved Mountaineer football and kept her mind sharp with Jeopardy and crossword puzzles. As a young girl she was a champion speller and prize-winning pie maker.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cooke Funeral Home in Cedar Grove on Sunday, March 29. A second visitation will be held on Monday, March 30, one hour prior to the memorial service at Buckhorn Church, east of Mount Nebo, Nicholas County, starting at 1 p.m. Service will be at 2 p.m. officiated by the Reverends Lee Swor and Timothy McClung. Her final resting place will be in the Grove family burial ground adjacent to Buckhorn Church.The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Leora's name to diabetes research such as the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation or to renal research.Leora will be deeply missed by many loved ones, most of all, her devoted husband, Woodrow.
