Della S. Urquhart, 86, the first woman state director of licenses and former Republican national committee woman, died here yesterday. Mass of Christian burial will be said at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Teresa's Church. Burial will be in Calvary, Yakima.
Mrs. Urquhart was appointed director of licenses by Gov. Arthur B. Langlie in 1951 and served until 1956. She was elected national Republican committeewoman in 1936 and was named to three G.O.P. committees in 1940.
Born in Looking Glass, Oregon, she operated orchards in Yakima many years. Her husband, John J. Callahan, owner of the Callahan Department Store in Yakima, died in the 1920s. Her second husband, J. T. Urquhart, a Yakima pharmacist, died in the 1940s.
Mrs. Urquhart helped organize the State Federation of Women's Republican clubs and served as its first president. A son, Dr. John J. Callahan, Seattle, survives.
The town of Cliffdell, WA was named after Della and her Brother Cliff by Homesteader Russell Davison whom was a friend of the family.
