Death of the Rev. Foster
Former Resident of Topeka Dies in Elk, Washington

Word has been received in Topeka of the death of the Rev. Festus Foster, former prominent Congregational minister, who died Friday at Elk, Wash. He was a former resident of Topeka.

The Rev. Foster was ordained in 1883, and served as pastor of churches at Sedgwick, Wichita, Mount Hope and Haviland. He resided in Kansas City for several years and then accepted a pastorate at Westmoreland in 1909. His final charge was at Valley Falls in 1911. He was forced to give up the ministry on account of poor health.

He was one of the first persons to be appointed a member of the state motion picture censor board upon its establishment a few years ago.

He moved to Topeka in 1911 and resided here until about six months ago, when he moved to Elk, Wash. on account of his health.

His father, the late Rev. R.B. Foster, was active in establishing Congregational churches in northwestern Kansas.

He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Dorothy, of Elk, Wash., and four sons, Festus, a lieutenant in the navy; Ralph, professor of English at Anapolis academy; Paul, a lieutenant in the army; and Carroll Foster, American consul at Vienna. Some of the sons went as Rhode's scholars to Oxford university, England.

Mrs. Foster has been active in the work of the Kansas Women's clubs.

The body will be brought to Topeka next week for burial. Dr. Charles M. Sheldon and the Rev. John Wells Rahill, pastor of the Central Congregational church, will be in charge of the services. Interment will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
