GALENA, Ill. - Blanche E. Smith, 92, of 11253 W. Red Gates Road, Galena, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Galena-Stauss Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena.
She worked at the former Savanna Army Depot during World War II. She was later employed at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque for 25 years until her retirement in 1976.
She was born on March 8, 1914, in Galena, daughter of John and Agnes (Bastian) Tresidder.
She married Eugene Chetlain on Oct. 30, 1933; he preceded her in death in February 1940. She later married Howard Smith in June 1945; he preceded her in death in August 1970.
She enjoyed traveling, flowers and gardening.
Surviving are two daughters, Betty Huckins, of San Diego, and Shirley (David) Hahn, of Galena; a son, Howard (Marge) Smith, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Milton; three stepdaughters, Helen Walsh, June Enstrom and Maxine Jordan; and two great-grandchildren.
