Vogel, Conrad J.

Conrad J. Vogel, age 80, a resident of Two Rivers, died Monday afternoon, September 14, 2015, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

Conrad was born February 6, 1935, in rural Manitowoc Rapids and was raised on the family farm. He was the son of the late Frank A. and Rose (Schuh) Vogel. He graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1952. On September 29, 1956, he married Betty M. Hartway, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, the Rev. Peter Klauck presided. Conrad was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church and was a member of the Men of St. Peter. Conrad was employed at Hamilton Industries for 20 years. He studied at the George Meany Center for Labor Studies, Silver Spring, Maryland, and the University of Wisconsin School for Workers. He served as President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1533 and later was their Business Representative for a total of 23 years. Conrad then became a Business Representative for the Carpenters Midwestern Industrial Council for 12 years. He served as a delegate for the Local Union to the Two Rivers Federation of Labor. Conrad was also on the board of directors for the Union Labor Hall Inc., serving as President for 9 years. He served on the Northeastern Health Planning Commission, the Private Industry Council, the Two Rivers Business Council and was appointed to the Wisconsin Patient Compensation Panels by Governor Anthony S. Earl, serving for 3 years. Conrad retired in May of 1998. Following his retirement, he was a volunteer at Democratic Headquarters for many elections. He was also a Carpenters Delegate to the Manitowoc Lakes Labor Council for many years.

Through the years, Conrad enjoyed his family, reading, fishing, his computer, playing fantasy football and traveling.

Survivors include his wife: Betty Vogel; his children: Linda and Dave Heili, Manitowoc, David and Shelley Vogel, Two Rivers and Catherine Vogel and fiance', Brian DeFere, Newton; his grandchildren: Josh (Katie) Loucks, Don Loucks, Daniel Heili, Patrick Heili, McKenna Vogel and Kaeden Vogel. He is further survived by a sister: Mary Ann Zipperer; a brother and two sisters-in-law: Marcellus (JoAnn) Vogel and Marion Vogel; along with other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; two sisters: Genrose ( Walter) Krippner and Cecilia (Clarence) Doleysh; five brothers: Raymond (Helen) Vogel, Hilary (Neva) Vogel, Stanley (Lorraine) Vogel, Frank Vogel and Marcus Vogel; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harry and Ella Hartway; a sister-in-law: Evelyn Hartway and a brother-in-law: Victor Zipperer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd., Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Reynebeau with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. There will be no Monday evening visitation.

The Vogel family extends a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the 4th floor at Shady Lane, Evie in Rehab, Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Cornwell for the wonderful care and compassion given to Conrad and his family.
