Carl Ruether Found on Markwardt Farm
Carl Ruether, 38, a farm hand employed on the farm of Elmer Markwardt of route 2, Manitowoc, three miles north of the city, died of drowning in a milk cooling trough in the milk house of his employer's farm early this morning.
His body, with the head and shoulders submerged in the water, was found by Mr. Markwardt shortly before 6 o'clock this morning. The latter told Coroner Theodore Teitgen that Ruether has arisen about 4:30 a.m. to do the early chores. The coroner said Ruether had probably been dead an hour when found. There will be no inquest.
The coroner said Ruether had been subject to attacks of epilepsy since his youth and probably suffered one of the attacks while working about the cooling trough.
Mr. Ruether was born on a Mishicot farm in 1911, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ruether. He assisted his father on the home farm for several years and for the past year has been employed on the Markwardt farm. He never married.
Surviving are three brothers, Walter of route 2, Reedsville, John of Two Rivers, and Edward of Mishicot; seven sisters, Mrs. Otto Sporer of route 2, Manitowoc, Mrs. Arthur Folletz, Mrs. Louis Uhlers, Mrs. Paul Denk and Mrs. Richard Denk, all of Manitowoc, Mrs. Ervin Peterson of route 1, Valders, and Mrs. Elmer Bastian of Two Rivers.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Klein and Stangel Inc., funeral home, Two Rivers, with burial in the Forest View cemetery there. The body may be viewed at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday.
