Ruth (LaRue) Lambert contributed an article to Mercer County History. David Shrader, Jr., was a soldier in the Civil War. He was wounded in the "Battle of Princeton (WV)." Chloe (Dillion) Shrader, his wife, heard of his condition and went to Princeton to bring him home. Chloe was tending his needs when David decided to get out of bed; his wound opened and out came the wadding from the shot.

Also: Per Ruth (LaRue) Lambert: After Chloe (Dillion) Shrader died David married Elizabeth Coleman and moved from Sandlick to Camp Creek, where they reared their sons, John and Charles.

David Swader (sic) served in the 151 Militia Regiment from Mercer Co., VA/WV., under Capt. John E. Hall.

Regarding the first wife of David ‘Dave" Shrader, Jr.:
Chloe Dillon may also have been known as "Martha". My Grandfather, Samuel Henry Shrader, 1891-1979, told his daughter, Frances Ocie (Shrader) Sadler, 1926-1995, that his grandmother's name was Martha. There is also the possibility that he may have meant Elizabeth "Lizzie" Coleman (if part of her name was Martha? We know Elizabeth Coleman was the second wife of David Shrader, Jr., but not the mother of Rufus Jackson Shrader, 1862-1954, who is the father of Samuel Henry Shrader)
