Ernest Beck descends from a very old Texas pioneer family. His gr great grandfather was Caleb Wallace. Caleb came to Texas from Buncombe county, North Carolina and was a member of the "Old 300", the settlers of Stephen F. Austin's San Felipe colony.

Mr. Beck began his service career with the Dallas Police Dept. on March 8, 1939. He started as a Motorcycle officer. In 1943, he joined the Homicide Division, Crimes Against Persons, (CAPs) as a Detective; (Badge 45).

In Feb. 1948, he was featured in "Front Page Detective" magazine.

He was a member of the "Cracker Jacks". A group of detectives under the leadership of Capt. Will Fritz. The CAP's division investigated the Kennedy Assassination and the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Ruby.

Mr. Beck honorably retired from the Dallas Police Department on October 10, 1965.

On October 11, 1965, his service career continued, joining the Dallas Co. District Attorney's Office as an investigator for District Attorney Henry Wade. He was lovingly known as "POB" (Poor Old Beck).

Mr. Beck retired from Dallas County District Attorney's office, in 1979.

Mr. Beck was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas.

He married Emily Nancy Richardson, in Durant, Okla., April 25, 1931. They were married 54 years. They had 5 children, 5 grandchildren, and 3 gr grandchildren.

Mr. Beck played baseball for Greenville, Texas high school, in the 1920's. He was their All-Star Shortstop.

At age 16, he played baseball for the Greenville Hunters, Division A, professional club.
