(From Shamokin Times) COAL TOWNSHIP Robert D. "Ducky" Kozar, 75, of Box 926, Coal Township RD 2 (Fidlers Green), died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at his residence. He had been ill for the past five months.


Born in Shamokin on May 17, 1928, he was a son of the late John and Adele (Wywadis) Kozar. He was a lifelong resident of the Shamokin area.

Having attended Coal Township schools, he was an independent coal miner, last working for Shamokin Filler Co., Coal Township.


He was married May 26, 1951, in St. Anthony Church, Ranshaw, to Joan T. Grazul, who survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having entered active service on Aug. 3, 1950. He served on the USS Norris and was honorably discharged May 24, 1954. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with two stars, United Nations Service Medal and the China Service Medal.


He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, and American Legion Post 231, Kulpmont; and a life member of Brady Fire Company, Ranshaw.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Cindy Kozar of Coal Township and U.S. Army Maj. Michael P. and Marion Kozar of Monrovia, Md.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Frank Mostik of Coal Township; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne (Patsy) Johns of Watsontown and Mrs. Joe (Natalie) Bray of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, Kristen Kozar, Robbie Kozar, Frank J. Mostik III, Nicole Mostik, Mrs. Greg (Stephanie) Lubeskie, Michael R. Kozar and Loren J. Kozar; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Eugene, in infancy; and three brothers, John, Jerome and Eugene Kozar.


Robert D. "Ducky" Kozar, 75, of Box 926, Coal Township RD 2 (Fidlers Green). Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township. The Rev. Frank Karwacki will officiate. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. today at Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, Leonard J. Lucas, supervisor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shamokin VNA Hospice, 21 W. Independence St., Shamokin 17872 or Our Lady of Hope Church, 863 W. Chestnut St., Coal Township 17866.
