Mr. and Mrs. John S Davis celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Marceline. They were married 14 July 1859 in Bellair, Ohio. Came originally to Macon then to Marceline. They had 10 children, 7 living. Those present were Elizabeth Goodwin of Arkansas; William A., Kate, Myrtle, and John Jr. of Marceline.

John and his wife, Ruth Bennett White, had 10 children, seven who grew to adulthood. They were Henry S., Sarah Alice, Elizabeth, Katherine, Myrtle, William A., and John S. Jr. Sarah Alice married Weldon V. Denniston, son of Alexander Lear Denniston.



John was post commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, having served with Company G 98th Ohio Infantry from August 1862 until the end of the war. He was given an honorable discharge and a Lieutenant’s commission.
