Mom was born the oldest of 8 children to Gustave and Lottie (Stinchfield) Tardiff. Lottie also had 2 children, Morris and Margaret, before marrying Gustave. The Tardiff children were Helen, Gustave (Joe), Charles, Louise, Lillian, Lawrence, Charlotte and Lester. Mom was born on the farm at the bend of Snow Road in Durham. She was a descendent of Olivier Le Tardif who arrived in Quebec in 1618.
She married Arthur Clifford on January 10, 1941, in Auburn, Maine and their children are Arthur Jr., Alan, Lynda & Joyce. They moved to Washington State in 1952.
She worked in many of the school lunch kitchens and retired from Edmonds School District as a Manager in 1984.
Dad was retired from Lone Star Cement for only a couple years before dying of cancer in 1983. Mom never remarried.
Mom was a hard worker all her life, having struggled on the farm through the depression, helping to raise her younger siblings while her parents worked. Her mother worked in a shoe factory and her father worked for the WPA.
Mom and Dad managed to raise us on a meager income after moving to Washington State to start over, as jobs were scarce in Maine.
We were taught to respect authority & the law, be honest, and to work hard for what we wanted.
Mom traveled to many places after Dad passed away. She joined a travel club and went to China & Japan, Hawaii & Alaska, Great Britain, Europe, all over the U.S.
Mom passed away from a heart condition and complications of infection after a brief period of decline.
She is greatly missed.
